A rare sighting of Isla’s eyes!

After a lot of coaxing I managed to get a few more photos of Isla with her eyes open. It doesn’t happen much! My biggest problem at the moment is getting her to stay awake long enough to finish a meal. Ideally from Isla’s point of view, she would like to have 10 minutes feeding followed by a little snooze for about 15 minutes, wake up long enough for another short meal followed by about a 20 minute nap on my shoulder while I try to burp her, and repeat on the other side. Much as I love cuddling with my snuggly, snuffly little baby I would prefer to speed up the whole process at 4am! Any helpful hints and suggestions from all the experienced parents out there?!

I had the same problem with Emily when she was little. She would fall asleep soon after starting to feed. My midwife suggested stroking her cheek or tickling her feet to try and keep her awake. It didn’t really work for Emily, but it may for Isla!! And with Sophie’s night feeds, she feeds one side for about 10 minutes, then we have a nappy change and that wakes her enough to feed on the other side for maybe another 10 minutes, then she is back to sleep again. Perhaps that may help.

And I love the expressions on Isla’s face! Her eyes look quite dark as well. Are they going to be brown do you think? It’s funny, when you see her lying on her own, she looks quite big, but lying on Paul’s lap, she just looks teeny tiny.

Just get Paul to make a nice cup of tea for you to have while he changes her nappy.then she will be wide awake. well you will be anyway.

    dear April Paul & Isla
You all sound like you are doing a great job, i think the sleep deprivation is the hardest to get used too when you have a new wee babe. Try to wake Isla up during the feed ie; change nappy try playing with her feet that usually gets them going. all else fails a cool facecloth over the face.{they do not like this however] She is very alert and looks gorgeous. I have been enjoying your website love the video footage of you with her you are a natural mum. Could you please put up your postal address as the girls over here have been doing a spot of shopping for little Isla and would like to get it in the post.
    Thanks

    Hi Lynley,
Thanks for the nice comment. I have been getting better at keeping her awake at night, but she can be pretty determined to stay sleeping sometimes- she can even go back to sleep with a cold facecloth on her forehead! I think she might be going to be fairly stubborn, once she decides she has had enough she clamps her lips together and no amount of coaxing can get her to open her mouth!
Our postal address is: P.O. Box 2207, Seward, AK, 99664.
I hope things are well with you guys!
    Love April
